Our magnificent imported chest-on-chest secretary is hand crafted in hardwood with a cherry burl veneer. This super-structure is a marvel of intricate organization. The lower chest consists of a slant top desk above four drawers; reeded pilasters adorn the sides. The apron is centered with a beautifully carved shell and acanthus leaf cartouche. The piece sits on classic bracket feet. When open, the desk top rests on extended sliders pulled by antiqued brass knobs. Inside are five drawers and two scalloped-trimmed open shelves. Center doors conceal a space flanked by reeded pilasters with acanthus capitols. When pulled out, they reveal hidden compartment for private papers. The top portion of our secretary has 22 pigeon holes with arched tops as well as seven drawers. A pair of paneled doors secures a large compartment flanked by reeded pilaster drawers. Above them are hidden drawers embellished with stylized hand-carved acanthus leaves forming a floral motif. The classic bonnet top is adorned with flame finials. The hardware is hand-cast antiqued brass.
