Regency Library Globe
Only the most well-appointed homes of the 17th and 18th century were complete with a terrestrial globe. The most desirable of these "library globes" were on stands, allowing the viewer to examine any region closely. Our Regency-style library globe is 16" in diameter, has an antiqued surface and sits upon a tripod with reeded legs and brass caster feet. This globe has contemporary maps for utility but the routes of important voyages by early explorers are shown, along with major shipping routes in nautical miles. Rolled hinges support the meridian, or, line of longitude, made of antiqued brass. The well-crafted stand is mahogany with rosewood cross-banding on the rim.
