Originally reserved to store precious spices in Imperial palaces, Chinese crackle porcelain lidded jars such as these quickly became prized objects for knowledgeable collectors. Our grandly-sized, handmade pair of imported jars feature hand-painted scenes of peacocks, doves, cranes, ducks and roosters alight on flowering branches, nestled under pine boughs, or swimming among water lilies throughout the four seasons. Each panel is painted in classic cobalt blue on a background of prized crackle white. A lion-dog finial tops the lid. Lion-dog masks in relief surround the hip of the vessel. Brass banding around the base, mouth and lid adds not only protection from chips, but also regal allure. Sold in pairs.
