Our John Frederick Herring, Sr. prints are classic portraits of Charles XII, the winner of The St. Leger Stakes in 1839 and Sweetmeat, a colt who went undefeated in his third year. A prominent animal painter of 19th century Europe, Herring was repeatedly commissioned by the British gentry and royalty, most notably, the Duchess of Kent and Queen Victoria. Here, Herring captured the beauty and power of the colts; their dark, lustrous coats contrast beautifully against the golden-hues of their stalls. Printed on archival-quality paper, our thoroughbreds are surrounded by a hardwood, mahogany-colored frame with an antiqued gold interior border. Set of 2.
